Puppy training tips for dog owners in Franklin, TN

As a dog owner, you want to make sure that your pup is well behaved and follows your rules. The following puppy training tips for dog owners in Franklin, TN will help you train your dog so that it can learn how to behave in the home and outside.

Puppies are cute and fun to play with but they also need to be trained. It’s important to start training as soon as possible so that it becomes second nature for your dog. You will enjoy having a well-behaved pet that listens to you and doesn’t cause any problems around the house.

1. Start early

The first thing that you need to do when training your pup is start early. Studies have shown that puppies who are trained at an early age respond better than those who are trained later on in life. If you wait too long before starting training, then it may be difficult for your puppy to learn what he needs to know in order to be well behaved around the house and outside in public places.

2. Use positive reinforcement.

Training is about teaching your pup what to do and what not to do through rewards and praise. Set up a routine for feeding and potty breaks. This will help keep things organized and predictable for your puppy so that he knows what to expect each day (and what not to expect). Train him to go outside at specific times of day, which helps with housebreaking. If he goes outside when he should, reward him with praise or treats!

2. Teach sit first and foremost.

Teaching "sit" is one of the most important commands because it teaches patience while also giving you control over your pup's movements so that he doesn't jump on people or chew on things that belong to other people or chew up items around the house.

If you have a puppy and are open to seek professional dog training, Dave Stellato at Sit Happens Dog Training is happy to help. We are a nationwide dog training organization that specializes in puppy training. Give us a call today and we'll be glad to answer any questions you have.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

Dave is amazing!! He changed my dog and I’s lives! He is reliable and hard working. His work not only trains the dog but more especially the owner on how to handle their dog. I would give 6 stars if possible! Thank you Dave!

Dave helped us immensely with our five-year-old Yorkie mix, Max. Max's behavior at the door, getting the leash on, getting the muzzle on for vet visits -- all that and more had gotten incredibly difficult. We saw *significant* improvements -- in just a couple of weeks -- with minor changes to our behavior and patterns. Dave is both personable and results-oriented, while also demonstrating his love for dogs, including ours. We recommend Dave!

We are so glad we met Dave! We adopted a puppy 4 weeks ago, and he has been a HUGE support for us integrating Merlin into our family. He has taught us how to get started training early, and he has responded very fast to any questions we have outside of our sessions. We can't wait to continue working with our new addition to get him trained off-leash like Dave's dog. We can't recommend him enough!

I LOVE Dave! I've known him 5 years and I still go back to him with questions, he is committed, responsive and just gets it. He has been my Go To trainer for my 5 year old Weimaraner Grace Olivia from the moment I brought her home - from the beginning he showed so much care and concern for my girl, and she is AMAZING because of his efforts to train me! I am getting a new puppy soon and you better believe he/she will be a Sit Happens graduate as well!
